Apple today announced its contactless payment service, Apple Pay in Russia, making it the tenth country to have access to Apple’s payment method with expectations to expand in more countries by the end of the year. Apple Pay is now available Australia, Canada, China, France, Hong Kong, Singapore, Switzerland, the UK and U.S.
Sources say that Apple has been in talks with a number of banks and vendors in Russia to bring its mobile payment and digital wallet service to more users in Russia this year. According to Apple, its payment method will be available to Sberbank and Mastercard clients and they can use the service to make the purchases now.
To use the service, users need to provide their credit card details to the Apple Pay app on your iPhone before making purchases and those who have already set up Apple Pay will continue to get benefits from their credit and debit card. Setting up Apple Pay is pretty simple, as you can use the official Sberbank Online mobile application. So, all you have to do is to download the app and set up Apple Pay. However, to make the most out of the payment service, ensure that you are now using the iPhone 6, 6 Plus, iPhone SE, and later. Besides, you can use the Apple Watch to pay in store and online with the service.
According to sources, Apple Pay could be Apple’s strategic plan to increase its market share in Russia this year. Apple’s iPhone sales remained its steady growth in the first quarter of 2016 in Russia, giving Apple 10.4 percent market share. However, Samsung still topped the table, with 20.6 percent, followed by the Chinese side, Lenovo.
For those who may not know, Apple Pay was first introduced in 2014 along with the iPhone 6 and Apple’s payment service is now available in ten countries. According to Apple, the company’s payment method now takes up ¾ of all contactless payment made in the US.
Apple is planning to expand its presence this year, as its online payment method is now available on MacOS Sierra, making it much easier for users to do some serious online shopping. With MacOS Sierra, Apple Pay is now faster, easier and safer to make your purchases and all your transactions will be protected by Apple.
According to rumors, Apple is planning to bring its payment method to more Asian countries including Japan and Singapore in order to compete with Google’s Android Pay, which has been expanded to Singapore and Australia. Besides, Apple Pay is expected to be made available to more banks and vendors in the UK including the Co-operative Bank and Metro Bank, making it 22 in total by the end of the year.
