Switch Between and Force Close Apps
The Apple TV also has an app switcher to close apps. To activate it, double-click on the Home button on the remote. After that, you can use the trackpad to swipe among apps.
If you want to force close an app, simply navigate to it, and swipe it up.
Quickly Scrub Through Video
You can quickly scrub through a video to get to a specific spot. All you need is pausing the video, and then swipe in direction on the trackpad in order to scrub forward or backward.
Swipe Down to Display Hidden Settings
While you are playing a video, simply swipe down on the trackpad to open up some hidden settings, such as subtitles, and audio settings.
Put Your Apple TV in Sleep Mode
You can head to settings and put your Apple TV in Sleep Mode. However, it’s easier to click and hold down the Home button until you see the “Sleep Now” popup. Simply click on “OK” to put your Apple TV to sleep.
Rearrange and Delete Apps Directly on Home Screen
Similar to iOS, the Apple TV also allows you to rearrange apps as your favorite. All you need is hovering over the app you want to move, and click and hold down the trackpad. The app will then start wiggling. Now, swipe on the trackpad to move it to the position you want.
In this mode, you can also click on the Play/Pause button to open up more options, such as deleting or moving it into a folder.
Check Battery Level
Although the remote’s battery lasts for a while, you can still check how much battery life has left anytime. Simply go to Settings > Remotes and Devices. There is an icon displaying the battery level near “Remote”. If you want to see a specific percentage, just click on “Remote” to view it.
Adjust Trackpad’s Sensitivity
If you feel the trackpad super sensitive, you can easily adjust it. Go to Settings > Remotes and Devices, and choose the “Touch Surface Tracking” option. You can select from Fast, Medium, or Slow.
Change Function of Home Button
The Home button on the remote is truly a Home button, which is similar to the button on the iPhone/iPad. However, with the addition of the TV app, you can map the Home button as an actual Home button or simply as the shortcut.
To do so, go to Settings > Remotes and Devices > “Home Button” option and change the function of the Home button.
