Apple iPhone is one of the most desired smartphones out there thanks to its exciting features and premium design. A lot of things have changed since Apple unveiled the first iPhone ten years ago. Apple iPhone is now not limited to sending and receiving phone calls and text messages. Apple has really pushed the boundaries with a lot of innovative features.
iPhone owners now can share their iPhone’s cellular data with a Mac or iPad, all made possible by a useful feature called Wi-Fi hotspot. In other words, you can turn your iPhone into a Wi-Fi router, so all devices nearby can join your network. This is a great feature for those who spend a lot of time outside and want to keep updated with the latest happenings.
In this step-by-step guide, we will walk you through the steps turn your iPhone into a Wi-Fi hotspot. Before we begin, note that enabling Wi-Fi hotspot can consume a lot of data, so if you are now on a limited data plan, we recommend you use for a short period of time.
Steps to set up a Wi-Fi hotspot on your iPhone
Step one: First off, you need to launch the Settings app from your iPhone’s home screen and then select Mobile Data to proceed
Step two: Once you are done, hit Personal Hotspot and then turn on the switch for Personal Hotspot (Make sure that you have already enabled Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on your device. If not, you will be asked to turn them on)
Step three: Next up, you need to tap Wi-Fi Password and enter a password for your Wi-Fi hotspot (we recommend you use a password that is not related to your Apple ID and Wi-Fi network)
Step four: You will see the name of your hotspot under To Connect Using Wi-Fi. Now just simply go to your Mac, hit the Wi-Fi icon from the Menu bar and enter the password you created earlier.
Note that if you don’t see the Wi-Fi icon from your Mac’s menu bar, there is a good chance that you have already disabled it. To turn it back on, head to Apple menu and select System Preferences from the drop-down menu. Once you are in, click Network > click on Wi-Fi on the left > Select Wi-Fi hotspot from the Network Name menu. (Make sure that you check the box next to Show Wi-Fi status in menu bar at the bottom).
